upload to database

Hello
Regarding file manipulation (file upload and download)
So far I just used file upload and it does work fine for uploading to a folder. Your description under help says that it works with database as wel. I have MAMP and datebase set up in my computer, I made binding to the database and tabel for insert record. The connection is fine but I cannot upload the file using file-upload to the database. I tryed to save as text, varchar, and BLOB but it didn't work.
Would you please explain how to use fil upload and download with database (mysql).
Does it possibel to save the whole file inside the database or it is only the file-path that can be saved?
If it is only the file path that can be saved in the database, does it possibel to restrict file download for only members? becuase I am making a log in system for sharing files.
Thanks for your help
Best regards
Nebras
