Need advice - adding "customers who bought this item also like" feature to an existing shopping cart built with Ecart

I have a client who has an existing website and eCommerce store which was built by someone who is out of the picture for a while. The eCommerce part was built with Ecart, I don't know what version, but according to my client, it was years ago. However it still works pretty well.

I have redone the layout into a responsive design, working carefully around the existing cart code. We were having a sessions problem but after a phone call with WebAssist, Ray clued me in to probable cause and it has been addressed, so everything is working fine.

Now the client wants to add a very specific feature - he wants to add the "customers who bought this also like" feature that we see on so many online stores. After some searching of the forums I found this thread, asking a similar question, under the PowerStore section: http://www.webassist.com/forums/posts.php?id=29776

I'm looking for the best way to get this feature for my client. Would that be to get eCart 6? Would it enable me to add this feature without rebuilding the whole cart from scratch? Is it even possible to add this feature to a store built from scratch with the eCart 6 Dreamweaver extension?

Any information or advice would be appreciated.
