Display manager in ecart 6 not initializing

If anyone one can help me I really need some help, I am building a shopping cart using ecart6 and I was following a tutorial from web assist to set up the catalog page that would store my information, first step was to create a cart.php page, then to define a ecart object, I did all of these steps with no problem, next was to open the display manager which would not open but only left this message on the cart.php page:

<!--MENU-LOCATION=NONE-->
<!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- File Name:
- WA eCart 02Display.htm
-
- Description:
- Opens the Display Manager

Am I missing something here, was there something else I should have done, I have already made the database connection to web server and everything was running fine until the display manager refuses to open, please if anyone can help me or steer me in the right direction with a proper tutorial with how to set up a full shopping cart with ecart6 from start to finish it would be greatly appreciated.
