URL variables from Paypal not picked up with $_GET['item_number']

Hi I have managed to get paypal to accept my ecart order and it is also returning the variables, as follows http://www.demoapp1.acacia-technologies.co.uk/processpayment.php?tx=2XP96087N14894836&st=Pending&amt=24.22&cc=GBP&cm=&item_number=524

I have managed to get the details to display on my web page like so...

$item_transaction = $_REQUEST['tx']; // Paypal transaction ID
$status = $_REQUEST['st']; // Paypal transaction ID
$item_price = $_REQUEST['amt']; // Paypal received amount
$item_currency = $_REQUEST['cc']; // Paypal received currency type
$item_number = $_REQUEST['item_number']; //Paypal this is our order number stored in our database.

For some strange reason my recordset will not pick up the variable using $_GET['item_number'] or any of the others variables. Is there something that I am missing. Thanks

John
