Another way to look at this
If you develop websites for a living:
You should be able to recover $300 annually for tools that make you more productive without any trouble.
If you are happy with what you have now:
Nothing has changed.
If you don't develop websites for a living:
Buy what makes it easier for you, for the money you have to invest.
The IT industry changes rapidly and there aren't any guarantees that it won't be expensive to keep up. Our shelves are full of obsolete products, but we never expected the original developers to give us credit for past use of their tools. We just look for the best deal currently available for our current needs. Worrying about the deal the other guy got, just makes you crazy.
You can't expect a hardware store to sell a professional quality drill for less, just because they aren't going to use it professionally. How you use a tool is up to you. The cost/benefit analysis is also up to you.
Having more options is a good thing.
