Field Validation Problems

I have used security assist to build my registration etc pages. Under manage pages tab and working with database tables, I have edited each field accordingly. Some fields are set to required. After the pages were generated, I tested the registration page. Two specific fields are set as checkboxes and are not required. However, when testing the registration page I get the following messages:

Column 'ri_SubscriberNewsletter' cannot be null
Column 'ri_SubscriberStatus' cannot be null

Both of these fields are NOt set for "this field should be required to submit the form"

Any advice how to correct the problem?

On the registration page, I have 2 hidden fields, one for registration date and at the other for renewal date. I have searched for solutions and have added the PHP code to insert current date and current date plus one year respectively. Could you kindly check if the PHP code is correct. Much appreciated.
