Multiple issues relating to custom page CMS system Im building

Hi, firstly I am attaching my project files (minus the directory structure).

I have a few issues with these, relating to the IDs not being passed around properly (one issue I resolved bu creating a URL variable and binding that, but then this caused problems with the index.php page coming up with errors.

my first question though (as best to take it question by question) is: The homepage obviously doesnt have an URL parameters since its the index.php page..however because there are no URL parameters then when I go to the admin area that I build because there are no parameters being passed then I cannot update the page content for index.php...currently the work around would be to physically click on the menu link for homepage which then passes in URL parameters. how can this be resolved? I tried change -1 to an id value relating to the record in the database that is for the contents of the homepage but this has no effect.

(2) in the content-change document I have a form that allows changing of the main content as well as a upload server behaviour - but all are optional..however on upload if the admin changes anything (but not the file upload) then the update saved will empty the contents of the file field in the database. so how can I change my code so that if the admin choses not to update the file upload then this will NOT blank out the data for the file stored in the database?
