there is no tutorial, but yes, it is possible.
before doing this, though, i would recommend running the security assist wizard to familiarize yourself with how the pages are created by the wizard.
the keys to make note of is how the Authenticate user server behavior is configured. On the Database tab, the Username column of your users table is set to compare against the Username form element, and the password column is set to compare against the password column.
on the sessions tab, the ID column is set to save as a session variable.
in the webassist -> Security assist -> Site Access -> Access rules manager, the Logged into users rule is set to make sure the session crated by the authenticate user behavior is not blank.
