Display Success or Error message at sending

Hi.
I have a form loading in jQuery's div, inside a php page already created earlier.
The previous form carried the auto-reply (if it was sent successfully or error occurred) through an image (error = error.jpg; success = success.jpg).
But with the exchange server, old form started to give errors, and therefore replaces one made by the Universal Email.
But it doesn't loadthe response page within the div success.php prepared for it, does not load the page in a new page ... no message at all...
What can I do to include a if = success, loads the image success.jpg, and if it goes wrong, the image loads error.jpg?
Thank you
