Can't change default product settings

We had a special on a product and made the special the default setting under product options for this product during a limited time.
Now I can't change the default setting back to the original without deleting and inputting the other product option settings all over again.
There is no simple "delete" for the new special settings. Just an "edit" which only allows me to change it's name.
Am I missing something here?
