Dynamic Field Selection

I'm trying to select specific fields in a table via a form POST using radio choices.
The values of the radio options are the exact field names in the table that I'm selecting in the MySQL query.

$X = $row_Recordset1['.$_POST['r1'].'];
$Y = $row_Recordset1['.$_POST['r2'].'];

I'm then outputting my data to an XML file, and I'm getting no data regarding what's been posted, but If I hard code field names to this file, I get an output that works properly.

The only change to this file is that I'm attempting to Dynamically change the fields that are reported.

What am I doing wrong here to be getting no X or Y values from my form POST?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
