2 instances of Current State showing in menu

I'm using CSS Menu Writer with DW CS5.5 for a horizontal menu (top level only) with the menu item highlighted for the current page. Everything works fine until the browser back button is used. The previous page's menu button lights up as it should, but the menu button for the page moved away from is still in the current state, so now 2 buttons are highlighted. Same behavior with the browser forward button. Go back a few pages and always 2 menu items highlighted.

Both Firefox 15 & IE9 are affected, Chrome & Safari are behaving.

I've put 3 meta tags on each page:

<meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache" />
<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" />
<meta http-equiv="expires" content="0" />

which I thought would eliminate any cache problems with the Back button, but no effect.

I tried various options for Background & Borders in the Design tab, but no change.
I'm also a bit confused about how the Background: <a> , <span> & <li> options work.

Any suggestions?
