Clearing cart session to separate orders

re: everythingforthechef.com

Using eCart 4 ASP and all plumbed into Worldpay fine, and storing order details in database, but....

if i process an order thru the payment gateway, cart assigns cartID fine (i.e. 2145223), but if i thenm go back to the cart, empty it and then add something else (as a customer may do i guess), and sumbit that new order, it sends it as the same cart ID and overwrites the previous order details in dBase. Effectively I lose that previous order details.

Presumably I need to prompt the cart to clear that session somehow, once someone has gone thruthe payment gateway? although, if there was a hiccup with the payment gateway and the cusomter needed to go back and resubmit, all cart contents would have disappeared ....?

how do i best ensure that a new order generated in this way receives a new cartID?

thanks for any help as ever.
