the structure of the footer is:
<div class="footer">
<div class="footercols">
<div class="quaretcol">column 1</div>
<div class="quaretcol">column 2</div>
<div class="quaretcol">column 3</div>
<div class="quaretcol">column 4</div>
</div>
</div>

for the footer and footercols class, make sure to add overflow:hidden

in the quaretcol class, set a width that is 1/4 of the width available to the footer, and use float:left;
