Use of Digital File Pro2 explained

My site is nearly finished and all works well on a local testing server. I'm looking at using DF2 to add the functionality for uploading future images for any new products that will be developed.

At the moment the image names are stored in the database using dataassist insert pages and all the images are in their correct locations.

Will shortly be moving everything to a remote testing server.

The DF2 instructions talk about replacing a field on the insert and update pages.

Can't quite get to grips with the concept behind DF2 yet. Could you explain its use in relation to all described above and where it will be of benefit and is this the only way to upload future images.
