Client side validation

Trying to set up client side validation to a form field which can only have entries of either 1 2 3 or 4

Selected the correct form element
Used number format English (1000.00)
Minimum 1
Maximum 4
Allow decimals 0
Round none
Reformat none
If error occurs continue validation

Everything saves ok and adds code to insert page and can see validations in behaviours but if I enter say 5 in the field no errors are shown and the data is inserted into the database. I have super suite and have CSS Form Builder and Form Toolkit installed in the order detailed in your Extension install tips thread 6/12/11. What am I doing wrong?
