Image Upload problem Live Server

Hi
I have a problem with images being uploaded to my server, I am testing the update images page which works perfectly on my local machine.
I have file permissions set to 755 (I have also tried 775 and 777) for the directory. The file name displays in the dB and the location prefix is added correctly, but no upload is taking place.
We are hosted on a VPS Cloud hosted solution, any ideas what could be causing this, I have tried this several times to no avail, your help would be greatly apreciated.
