Firebug is a must have for this kind of work!
I also found that using the "!important;" tag after some of the social css rules helped a lot too. I was getting conflicts with my site's existing CSS styles, mainly with borders and margins being off.
My social layout was all off with some icons dropping lower than others. I found that a margin for the "img" tag was set elsewhere in my CSS so I added "margin: 0 !important;" to the .wasocial img { css rule and it fixed it nicely!
