USPS "support fix" creates new error msg

I noticed there is a "eCart 5: Support Fix - Updated USPS Shipping Rate Lookup API" which gives me a new WA_eCart_USPS_PHP.php file. I downloaded it and replaced the old one.

Before I swapped the old USPS_PHP for this new "fix" file, the process went all the way to connecting to USPS and generating a shipping_failure message, but now it instead stalls while still in confirm.php with the error message:

Notice: Undefined variable: USPS_PkCount in /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/ProRes_Shipping/WA_eCart/WA_eCart_USPS_PHP.php on line 129 (it repeats this error for lines 134 & 170)

Apparently something called USPS_PkCount is the problem. How do I fix this issue with the "fix"??

To me, the strange part is that all references to "PkCount" in the new file (Rate V4) are the same as in the old file (Rate V3). So why the new error msg?
