Thank you Jason for your reply;
Let me clarify something; I thought that a person would have a choice of using their PayPal account OR paying with a credit card. With that said, I also assumed that when clicking the "Pay with PayPal" button the customer would be sent to PayPal to sign into their account to use PayPal as their payment method. Once this transaction has taken place they would be sent back to our site to confirm.
Now if a person pays with a credit card, they would not be redirected to PayPal the information would be passed through PayPal for success or failure during the checkout process but the customer would never leave our site.
If the above is correct this is where I am confused. With the changes I have made I have either been sent to PayPal whether I hit the PayPal button or enter Credit Card info. Then we made the changes to the local checkout behavior and now whether I hit the PayPal button or enter Credit Card info I am not directed to PayPal. What I am saying is the way I have gone about this so far only produces the same result for either choice. I need the PayPal button to take people to their PayPal account or if they pay with a credit card for the information to be passed through PayPal but the customer would remain on our site.
The Existing Customer is called out on the checkout and confirm page. If a person checks whether they are an Existing Customer or New Customer this information is echoed on the confirm page and the email order receipt. This is something Craig has created for us and I am looking into the database here shortly to see why it is not finding this within my database.
So again, I am still confused on what is happening here and the confusion with PayPal button (paying with PayPal) and using a credit card (using PayPal as the merchant gateway - not forcing our customer to sign up for PayPal). As I have read in the PayPal Pro documentation this shouldn't be a problem? Just not sure how to make it happen with the previous instructions given?
