Adding more areas for CMS to use

So after I create my .dwt and put the 3 editable areas, Navigation, Content, and footer. I make it a preset for site sculptor, then create the site sculptor site and go to the templates and add the editable regions for my other areas? So when i upload it live it will pick them up as so and be editable with the CMS?

If I add all the editable regions in my original .dwt and create everything for the site sculptor page, the only thing that shows up is the content region. All the others are blank, granted the navigation area has the menu now, and the footer area has the footer links.
