Sub Access Pages

I have created a members only section that uses username and password to access it. Within the members section, I have a separate section that only certain members can access, i.e. Students.

Within my database I created a userLevel entry, integer, that is equal to 1 if you can access the Students section. I am stuck. I have tried the session variables and creating a rule if userLevel = 1. I am certain I'm missing a step on relating the username or primary id to be able to pull the record.

I hope this doesn't sound to jumbled, but right now, that's where my head is. The members section is working beautifully, it's the subsection that I cannot figure out how to access. My other option was to try and create a link that would show if userLevel = 1, but right now my PHP level isn't that advanced.

Thanks for your time and any feedback.
