PowerCMS Driven Site extremely slow

The pages were taking 15 seconds or more. I talked with the host (Godaddy) and they had said they were not experiencing anything on the server that would cause a problem.

The did suggest a possible browser incompatibility but these are fairly straight PHP files and as far as the CMS is concerned, it was slow in both IE8 and FireFox 3.5

One thing I did do is to clear my cache, temp IE files and cookies, it did speed up slightly but not much.
