1and1 php

Well, I was able to get to the install and it stopped because I do not have PHP5 on the server. 1and1 said I have to activate PHP5 by adding an .htaccess file to enable PHP5 to work. Can I just use notepad to make the file with the line of code they said to use? And, can it be a .txt file or some other file type.

This is from their FAQ page they sent me to:

"By default Apache uses PHP 4 for .php extension. If you don't want to rename all your
scripts to .php5 you can do the following:
Create a .htaccess file and place the following line AddType x-mapp-php5 .php in it."

I did add an .htaccess file, I hope correctly, to the site, but it still will not get passed the TEST page.

I have asked them to update to PHP5, but I have not received an answer to that yet.
