The version you have still works with the license you purchased it under.
I think a solution subscription is probably a good idea as one way we can help alleviate the problem without having to open up the license agreement.
This isn't our last move in this arena, so repricing the first version, drastic discounts on future versions, discounts for extension users, and subscriptions are all possible in the future.
Our intent is to be a sound business with happy customers. This news hasn't made many people happy, but it appears it may be a necessary move for us. The reality is that even before we opened the license we weren't selling more than one per person (most likely due to lack of enforcement and abuse).
As a result we opened the license in a "if you can't beat them, join them" move. It appeared that we lost nothing and the developer at least gained the peace of mind that they weren't breaking the agreement.
However, we found that we did lose something, we lost all of the intellectual property included in the solutions as a result of the licensing terms... so we had to change them back to protect our business from rampant abuse (not even abuse since it wasn't outside of the terms).
We appreciate the feedback and will work to find a license, price, and terms that will work for everyone involved. People point out that this is a move to make more money from our existing developers. We already know we will lose more money than we will gain in product sales due to this decision. We had to make it anyway to protect our business from a legal perspective moving forward.
