Slow loading CAPCHA

Recently I added a registration form to a client site that simply requests an email address and the CAPCHA code from the Contact Form Solution Pack.

I'm using the default files with minor edits to only obtain email and the code.

Below are my settings...

$WAGLOBAL_Captcha_Width = "180" ;
$WAGLOBAL_Captcha_Height = "36" ;
$WAGLOBAL_Captcha_Characters = "6" ;
$WAGLOBAL_Captcha_Font = "Fonts/MOM_T___.TTF" ;
$WAGLOBAL_Captcha_BG = "cccccc" ;
$WAGLOBAL_Captcha_Noise = "ff0000" ;
$WAGLOBAL_Captcha_Text = "000000" ;

About 8 times out of 10 the page is really sluggish to load.
About 4 out of 10 times the CAPCHA wont' load at all without a physical page refresh.
