'Active' tab php not working after converting tab menu to dropdown

We should work on one thing at a time so you don't get confused. You have three issues.

1) updating the :active class while you are still on the page to turn the tab red not white.
2) adding the active class to the active tab when the page loads in the php
3) adding CSS to make the active tab class red by default on the tab that is active when the page loads

Let's just work on #1 first.

That one is achieved by adding the class to your css file:

.nav .open > a, .nav .open > a:hover, .nav .open > a:focus {
background-color: red;
border-color: black;
color: white;

Once you get that working we can move onto #2. Once #2 is working you can move on to #3.
