Can I move records from one MySQL table to another?

Ray,
You told me on my users table that it was set up inefficiently, and that I should change most fields to VARCHAR, which I did. My password field is VARCHAR (20) with a default of None. I had mentioned already that I can't have Null as a default because otherwise my Update User Profile form won't post a real password to it.

Well now, when trying to simply add a new user to the table, I'm getting an error of: "blah blah Field 'password' doesn't have a default value" When I try to add our dummy default of '12345678' I get the same old error of: "#1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '=latin1 COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci NOT NULL DEFAULT '12345678'' at line 1"
This stuff is driving me crazy. Any ideas?
Gail
