images do not display

I have loaded powergallery, already troubleshooted some issues.
the images do not display. However if i login via ftp and change the file permissions, then voila they do display.

then when i load a few more images, those images dont display either until i again change the file persmission.

i have updated the common/properties settings (found from another post).
$GLOBALS['permissions'] = array(
'dir' => 0755,
'file' => 0755

however this doesnt seeem to solve the issue.

the only solution seems to be to change the permissions after each time i load images.
