So that would mean your host supports the CRYPT_STD_DES encryption type which takes a 2 character salt string.

CRYPT_STD_DES - Standard DES-based hash with a two character salt from the alphabet "./0-9A-Za-z". Using invalid characters in the salt will cause crypt() to fail.

It is striping the first 2 characters from the salt string. changing:
TNm2wbfWHhr4Jqy5X4D6TLluTh9hzdRnHbsA2YlP

to:
TN

Also, the standard DES-based crypt() only uses the first eight characters

The standard DES-based crypt() returns the salt as the first two characters of the output. It also only uses the first eight characters of str, so longer strings that start with the same eight characters will generate the same result (when the same salt is used).

so both of your test strings:
hoffmann73#

hoffmann73

are being truncated to:
hoffmann
