How do I set one initial price for shipping?

I think I have misunderstood the shipping function of the Add to cart button... I hope I haven't though!

I watched the tutorial on how to build a paypal driven store, and I have it all working fine, but what I am having trouble with is the shipping costs.

I was hoping to charge £5.00 for the first item, and then £1.00 per extra item. So, if I have to ship three different products, then I am hoping to charge £7.00 in total for shipping. However, at the moment I am finding that if I add three different products, I am charging 3 lots of £5.00 (£15.00) which is a bit steep!

How do I do this?

If I am adding three of the same product, then it works fine charging £7.00.
