More quick cart css...

When I insert quick cart into a div which is 255x50 (which looks like more than enough space to do what I want to do), there is a big space between the dynamic form elements and the buttons. A bigger space than what is in design view. Why does quick cart look good in design view and different in firefox? When I try to place my quick cart right above my horizontal navbar, it seems to place the quick cart buttons behind my navbar. When I move the quick cart up to avoid this, the div becomes too high. I'm sure it's something that I am missing. Can you give me some tips. I have been using firebug too.
