I bought Web Developer Suite by the end of December 2008. That is 5 months prior to today. DFP is released as a Major Release (Version 2) so it means that people pay an upgrade.
Usually u get a 1 year free upgrade when you buy a product. I suppose even if im a new webassist user i have to pay that 40$ to use that long awaited thumbnails basic feature.
I'll buy it again if needed as im running a project trying to depend only on webassist suite as i dont like to mess things up just want to express that this is a wrong sales policy.

I will forward your comments to our VP of sales. The reality is that very few companies in the software industry give a 1 year free upgrade policy. Our policies in regards to upgrades are directly in line if not more generous than Adobe's for instance.

As a former Interakt Beta Tester and as a user of Both Interakt Products and Adobe's, both companies were providing 1 year support and you had an option of aquiring a service anual fee support for faster support ticket answer and for upgrades.
As for upgrades even when Interakt got aquired by Adobe, everyone who had purchased their MXKollection 3 suite 6 months ago or had been long time user and were upgrading from its collection (When paying of an upgrade you were paying for all the MXKillection and not for the individual products 1by1) got an email for free upgrade to (Adobe Developer Toolbox).
Of course everybody involved in the inner products of interakt new that eventually Adobe would kill ADT for marketing purposes and to use/ingegrate its code into DWCS4.

MOST professional companies will give a free upgrade for 1 year to a new product release Except adobe which usually gives a substantial savings upgrade price. Adobe does though give a free upgrade if you purchased within 30 days of a major release.
Web Assist will give a free or substantial reduced upgrade price if their prior extension had serious problems, but seem to be getting away from the practice.

We provide unlimited free support, which is better than the 1 year policy of Interakt and Adobe. We give free upgrades if you purchased within 30 days just like adobe, and we give substantial discounts to existing owners and supersuite owners.

Considering what all the new DFP2 can do, I had no problem with my upgrade price. -- Also considering you can use it for unlimited websites with no problem.
