Hello to the smart guys,
While opening DW CS4 this error continues to occur and I've tried a number of troubleshooting tips to no avail.
I've tried deleting the DAT file from the config folder.
I've removed and reinstalled extensions for Web Assist.

----------------
While executing onResize in WA_Memento.htm, the folowing JavaScript error(s) occurred:

In file "WA_Menmento.htm":
refreshUI is not defined
----------------

Thanks for some assistance.
- Cory

Please post a support incident and let me know the incident number. We will need to have an engineer work with you to diagnose the problem if the usual suspects haven't resolved it.

rob,

Sorry that you've had a problem with a WebAssist extension, but one should never have to uninstall Dreamweaver to make JavaScript errors go away. Because such error are sorta common in Dreamweaver (they just happen sometimes, and not just to our extensions), there is an Adobe technote about Troubleshooting JavaScript errors in Dreamweaver (http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_19105). In particular look at items 4, 10, 11, and 12. All of those could be done prior to taking the nuclear option of uninstalling.

If you don't want Memento to pop up on CS4 startup just remove the WAMemento_onOpen.htm file out of your Application Support for DW CS4and in the Commands folder you will find this file... (do a search in your Finder)

If you don't want Memento to pop up go to: Edit->WebAsist Preferences

Somebody at Webassist has had a brain burp!

After needing to search Google and find this forum post to learn how to turn off a stupid popup ad that a company installed in my software WITHOUT my permission... I must say I'm seriously disappointed that WebAssist has taken this approach. What the heck are you guys thinking?

The correct course to take is to have people TURN IT ON IF they want to be notified about your site updates... NOT the other way around.

Come on guys! Do the right thing. Turn the advertising off BY DEFAULT and don't make thousands of people go through the pain I just went through. Our time is worth more than this!

It is an rss feed reading interface that is subscribed to the WebAssist RSS feed. It is used primarily for product updates and works as an alert when new versions are made available.

It is good to be familiar with the webassist preferences dialog in general. It isn't too difficult to use, although I see it has rubbed you the wrong way it is very useful for keeping up to date with dot releases and free updates.

Roy, I'm sorry. I disagree in every way imaginable. It IS advertising. Plain and simple. You can call it whatever you want. It IS ADVERTISING!

This feed alone advertises 8 products. NONE of those products have I ever purchased.

I have several feed readers on my machine and as a web developer... I am very aware of how to subscribe to feeds. It's pretty easy... really.

I dislike it when a company ASSUMES I want to know about their product announcements. I hate it when they force those announcements on me WITHOUT my permission.

Eventually, I'm sure, somebody at your company will have the good sense to make this an OPT IN program as opposed to an OPT OUT!

Do you really think that MOST people want your popup ads showing everytime they open Dreamweaver? Honestly?

Again, I understand it has rubbed you the wrong way. It is very easy to disable and stays disabled regardless of uninstallation and installtion of products. I hardly think that allowing a simple checkbox to disable is the equivalent of forcing anything. The decision to make it open by default was a discoverability decision to promote awareness.

We will likely continue to have it open by default, but we will be adding a checkbox to to allow you to disable it directly within the interface. Thank you for your feedback and suggestions.

I am having the same problem with CS4 not finding the JavaScript or whatever it's looking for on start up. I'd love to turn the feature off, but when I go to Edit->WebAssist the only choice I have is "Disable Preview". Disabling preview doesn't keep the crashes from happening. The preference menu I have (from purchasing the suite last week) doesn't have anything about Memento.

How do I stop crashes from happening?

I found the suggestion to follow Adobe's troubleshooting points for JavaScript errors in Dreamweaver http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_19105 and paid attention to the numbered items recommended. Unfortunately, nothing worked until I got to renaming the "Configuration" folder to "Configuration Old". So, I lost all of my DW customizations.

I then re-installed all my extensions. I then restarted DW CS4 and had the ****able Memento back, but... then I also had the WebAssist preference check-box configuration menu Ray mentioned in his earlier post. I told Memento to never start, restarted DW, and all seems right for now.

I had originally downloaded the free PayPal assistant (which is too basic for real life). I uninstalled it and its version Memento and about the same time (later? earlier?) installed the components of the Web Designer suite. Maybe that's why I didn't have the WebAssist Preference check boxes?

But, WebAssist guys... this is truly unprofessional! Your Memento spamware is causing a lot of people to get DW crashes that cause hours of work to "fix". If you are going to put an application on MY machine that I did not ask for an do not want, please make it a polite player.

... and now I am having to go through each component of WebAssist Designer to re-activate each and every product separately. How about 1 activation for a suite... especially if I have to re-do it because one of your programs!</snarky comment>

I am trying to disable Memento, also I don't want the Site Tools to pop up every startup. I can't find the file WAMemento_onOpen.htm with a search on my Windows PC, and there is no section for WebAssist under the Edit | Preferences, or under the Edit link in my Dreamweaver CS3.
Can you please let me know the correct way to stop this from starting up every time as I have to switch it off every time I start Dreamweaver and it's getting annoying.
Thanks

There should be a menu entry in Edit->WebAssist Preferences. If not, please post a support incident and somebody can investigate why it is missing and can help you with a way to immediately disable memento.

PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO TURN THAT ANNOYING BOX OFF!! IT HAS CREATED HUGE PROBLEMS WITH MY EXTESIONS. HAD TO REINSTALL TWICE TO GET IT TO NOW GIVE ME THE MISSING MEMENTO FILE MISSING.

YOU SHOULD ASK THE USER IF INTERESTED IN KNOWING ABOUT UPDATES AND NOT FORCE TO HAVE TO CLOSE IT ALL THE TIME. i DONT EVEN READ IT. I JUST CLOSE IT.

PLEASE, A LITTLE CONSIDERATION. TURN IT OFF.

Go to:

Webassist -> Preferences

select memento from the left hand side, and choose "never" from the list of when to show it.
