I am trying to install the PayPal eCommerce toolkit 4.5.3 extension for use with Dreamweaver MX. Unfortunately, once it's installed, Dreamweaver begins to start up and then just quits. I removed the extension and Dreamweaver started just fine.
Is there something I can do to correct the crashing problem?
Thanks!

It may be an issue with the filecache.dat file.
If you install the extension then clear that file before starting DW, that will often resolve issues like this.

And when you say clear that file - do you mean delete it entirely?

yes... with DW closed. Delete the file and open DW again.

Hm - it still crashes. Any other ideas?

Of course... I seldom run out of ideas.
Try this:
1) Close DW
2) Go to your user configuration folder and rename the folder "StartUp" to "StartUp_old" and rename the folder "Floaters" to "Floaters_old"
3) Start DW and I bet it will open
4) Close DW
5) Rename those folders back to their original names
6) Start DW again... everything is restored but DW works??... maybe

Mmmm - no deal, I'm sorry to say. DW didn't start up after renaming the folders "_old".
I truly appreciate your help! Now what?

Maybe you are renaming them in the wrong directory.
This almost always works. Are you browsing to %appdata% and navigating to the connections folder there or are you updating the program files directory?
Please submit a support incident with your phone number and let me know the incident number. I'll try calling to debug it with you.

We tried this over the phone and this technique worked:
Try this:
1) Close DW
2) Go to your user configuration folder and rename the folder "StartUp" to "StartUp_old" and rename the folder "Floaters" to "Floaters_old"
3) Start DW and I bet it will open
4) Close DW
5) Rename those folders back to their original names
