I'm using SecurityAssist 117. 7 out of 10 When I try to use it to build the pages, the thing just freezes up and there's no way out but to force DW to quit.

I have opened so many tickets on this issue but they keep blaming it on DW. I am using DW 8.0.2

The 3 out of 10 when it works -- it is fine. It is when it does not work that there is a problem. It just hangs forever. The cancel button does not work. DW has to be forced to quit.

Personally, I think this is a bug in the WA software. The WA staff that have worked with me did not think so. But then I stumbled upon this thing on the internet:

http://www.reviewcentre.com/review239458.html

Bad Points
The webassist dataassist extension, security assist, ecart extensions are buggy, and have very very poor documentation. This leads to more expense

General Comments
Having used the webassist extensions now for a while, I find that the mentioned extensions are full of bugs, the documentation that comes with there extensions is totally lacking. The extensions by webassist come with up to 2 support incidents where as the purchaser gets fast support when they can't get the software to work, this can be very often, they then charge $ US 30 f per support incident. If they had proper documentation and they extensions were not buggy, this would not be needed. You can expect to spend longer getting a project done using a Webassist extension then would using the server behaviours that come with dreamweaver itself.

*** The most stressful thing is: This guys at WebAssist would rather refund your money to you than to resolve your issues. Quite interesting you would say??... hahaha! It is just like they just dont give a **** if the thing worked correctly or not.

Michael,
I can understand your frustration, but my experience with WA has been different than the review you read.
It is also very possible it is DW that is causing your problem, or more likely, a conflict between different extensions or corrupted file.
I use DW 8.02 as well, and have occasional problems with freezing. I have a lot of extensions from different companies tho, and sometimes they dont play nice together.
It seem that sometimes something in the configuration folder (where all the extension files are stored) gets corrupted. Sometimes deleting the cache file will fix it, or fix it for a while, and sometimes I need to delete the whole configuration folder, and reinstall my extensions.
If you don't have too many extensions, this can be a good way to go.

Have you tried deleting your configuration folder, and re installing your extensions?
BTW, I am talking about a windows system, and the configuration folder located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8

My guess is that only users with bad experiences go through the trouble of finding and filling out reviews. I at least hope that isn't an accurate representation of satisfaction levels. Hopefully more positive reviewers will take the time, but again usually the motivation to fill out something like that is to get back at the company so they almost always have a negative bias.

Ray -- I expected you to tell me why this thing hangs up so much in DW 8, that DW8 had to be shut down. Why is the Cancle botton never work??? These are the things I would expect that you would address.

I am sure that people have the right to express their likes or displeasure of any product as far as they are being honest and not just trying to bad mouth the product. That survey is available on the internet and it is wrong to simply dismis it.

The review quoted is filled with misinformation and I think I do have the right to dismiss it as clearly wrong. I can point out clearly false statements throught:

"The extensions by webassist come with up to 2 support incidents where as the purchaser gets fast support when they can't get the software to work, this can be very often, they then charge $ US 30 f per support incident."

This is not our current policy. We haven't charged for or limited support incidents in more than a year.

"The most stressful thing is: This guys at WebAssist would rather refund your money to you than to resolve your issues"

clearly false... the only situation when that is the case is when we have an irate or unreasonable user that has become too difficult to work with. We always prefer to fix our extensions, even if we give a refund as well. We are quick to give refunds because our general policy is that we want 100% satisfaction and we don't really want dissatisfied customers.

This is a DW8 user from more than 2 years ago it would appear. There have been many updates to address many issues since then including new documentation, training, samples, forums, and much more. I see reasons why I can dismiss just about every sentence of that review.

If you have specific issues with a current version of a webassist extension, please post a support incident on the webassist web site. We would love to look into the problem and try to find a solution so that others don't run into the same issue.
